Empowering Futures: National Girl Child Day Celebrated with Zest at Eastern Railway Hospital, Liluah

In a spirited celebration of National Girl Child Day, Eastern Railway Hospital in Liluah illuminated with enthusiasm and commitment on January 24, 2024. Guided by Dr. Gopa Majumdar, the Chief Medical Superintendent, the event aimed at shedding light on the existing gender disparities faced by girls while advocating for equal opportunities in education, healthcare, and nutrition.

Shri Yatish Kumar, Chief Works Manager, graced the occasion with his presence, emphasizing the pivotal importance of gender equality. His address delved into pressing issues such as child marriage, discrimination, and violence against girls. A poignant moment during the celebration involved the felicitation of girl babies born in 2023 at Liluah Railway Hospital, symbolizing hope and recognition for the future.

Dr. Gopa Majumdar, in her encouraging address, urged parents to create an optimal environment for the education and health of their girl child. Dr. Mou Mitra, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent/Admin, illuminated the gathering with insights on the significance of women’s empowerment in shaping a progressive society.

The celebratory atmosphere extended to a poster presentation competition where adolescent girls expressed their views on National Girl Child Day through visually impactful awareness posters. The commendable efforts of these young minds were acknowledged with appreciation and awards. Furthermore, an extempore competition engaged parents in discussing pertinent topics related to the day, fostering a dialogue on the challenges and aspirations surrounding the girl child.

The event witnessed the active participation of over 50 individuals, including doctors, workshop officers, hospital staff, parents, adolescent girls, and other patients. Dr. Shilpi Siddhanta, Divisional Medical Officer/Health & Family Welfare, played a pivotal role in coordinating the event, highlighting the ongoing need for collective efforts to increase awareness and address gender-related challenges.

In a world witnessing positive trends in female employment, higher education participation, and improvements in sex ratios, events like these serve as catalysts to further boost public awareness and contribute to a more equitable future for girls.
