Kolkata, 29th February, 2024: Charnock Hospital, renowned for its healthcare excellence in Northern Kolkata, is expanding its footprint to serve the heart of the city. The historic Lohia Hospital, once a prominent landmark, had fallen into disuse. Now, under Charnock’s care, it will be resurrected as Charnock Lohia Hospital, a cutting-edge super specialty healthcare center catering to the needs of Central Kolkata.
In a press conference held at The Park, Kolkata, Charnock Hospital announced its plans to transform the sprawling 4 bigha property into a 200-bed super specialty hospital. The facility will boast 4-6 operating theaters, a Cathlab, and a CTVS/Neuro OT, alongside 90 ward beds, 20 cabins, a 10-bed emergency unit, a 70-bed ICU, and a 10-bed dialysis unit.
The restoration project will not only revive the structural integrity of the heritage building but also preserve its old-world charm. With its Grade 1 Heritage status and historical significance, the Lohia Hospital premises will once again serve the community. Strategically located near Girish Park Metro Station, accessibility is ensured for all.
Mr. Prashant Sharma, MD of Charnock Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to patient-centric care. He outlined plans for further expansion across West Bengal, bridging the healthcare gap in underserved areas. The Charnock Lohia Hospital project represents an investment of 160 Crores and is expected to generate over 900 jobs, contributing to the state’s economy.
Charnock Hospital’s existing facility near Kolkata Airport is a testament to its expertise in tertiary and quaternary care. With a focus on specialties like Cardiac Sciences, Neuro Sciences, and Organ Transplants, the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and a dedicated team of professionals.
In addition to its private endeavors, Charnock Hospital is actively engaged in public-private partnerships (PPP) with initiatives like ICU Units in ESI Srerampore & ESI Bandel. The hospital is poised to explore further collaborations with the state government to expand healthcare access across West Bengal.
