Subhash Ghai Celebrates Milestone as TV Show ‘Jaanaki’ Reaches 200 Episodes

Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai expressed immense joy and gratitude as his television show ‘Jaanaki’ completed 200 episodes. The show, which airs on Doordarshan National, has struck a chord with audiences by reflecting the experiences of Indian women, highlighting their struggles, triumphs, and everyday battles.

A Story Close to the Heart

Ghai shared that the story of ‘Jaanaki’ is deeply personal, having been written by him in 1995. Originally envisioned for Madhuri Dixit, the narrative revolves around an estranged daughter who proves to be more capable than the sons of her family. He remarked, “It was a first-hand experience entering into the creative realm of a TV series with a story that was so close to my heart.”

Musical Touch

The multifaceted Ghai also composed five songs for the series, with lyrics penned by him. The audience particularly appreciated the title song, which celebrates daughters. “My production team at Mukta Arts enjoyed the challenge of maintaining high-quality filmmaking for television,” Ghai noted, expressing gratitude towards the supportive and non-interfering Doordarshan team.

Creative Freedom on Doordarshan

Known as the ‘Showman’ of Indian cinema, Ghai has ventured into television with a unique approach. He praised Doordarshan for allowing filmmakers the creative freedom to bring their stories to life on the small screen. “Doordarshan has opened doors for filmmakers to showcase their stories with full creative command,” he said.

Future Endeavors

Looking ahead, Ghai revealed plans to create more television shows, promising exciting new projects for viewers. “Now we will make many more shows for the small screen too. Wait and watch,” he teased.

‘Jaanaki’ stands as a testament to Ghai’s versatility and his ability to connect with audiences across different mediums. As the show celebrates this significant milestone, it paves the way for more groundbreaking storytelling on Indian television.
