Kolkata, November 19 – Bharat Dev Varma, elder brother of former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, passed away this morning at the age of 83. He breathed his last at his residence in Kolkata around 9 am, following a prolonged period of ill health.
Bharat Dev Varma was the husband of renowned actor Moon Moon Sen and belonged to the distinguished royal family of Tripura. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Raima and Riya Sen, both acclaimed actors in the Indian film industry.
Bharat’s lineage is steeped in historical significance. His mother, Ila Devi, was a princess of Cooch Behar and the elder sister of Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, a celebrated figure in Indian royalty. Bharat’s grandmother, Indira, was the only daughter of Maharaja Searji Rao Gaikwad III of Vadodara, adding another layer of royal heritage to his legacy.
