Popular Tollywood actress Rituparna Sengupta was today (19 June) questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case over a ration distribution scam.The ED had asked Sengupta to appear before it for questioning on June 5, but she was in the US for personal reasons. She had sought another date after returning to Kolkata.
Earlier, senior Trinamool Congress leader Jyotipriya Mallick was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore scam.
According to the case, rations meant for the public distribution system (PDS) were siphoned off and sold in the open market.
During the questioning, which lasted for over five hours, Ms Sengupta was asked about her relation with former Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick, who had been arrested in the case, they said.
She was also asked if any financial transactions happened between her office and the state Food and Supplies Department when Mallick was the minister.
An ED Officer said that “We also verified some details, including transactions made through her bank accounts. She has submitted a few documents, which will also be verified.”
Following the questioning, The actress claimed that she had no connection with the alleged irregularities.
While leaving the ED Office, her last statement was, “I have cooperated with them throughout. I have provided them with the necessary documents. I cannot talk much about the matter.”
