Kolkata, 8th August, 2022: “The Butterfly counts not months but Moments, and has time enough” – Rabindranath Tagore.
No matter how much everyone loves Rabindranath Tagore, they are simply unable to believe in this quote- especially on this day when the enigma that was Rabindranth Tagore, was lost to us!
‘Baishe Srabon’ is spent remembering Tagore, his life and his works.
This year, on “Baishe Srabon”, Blue Moose, a music-themed cafe, celebrated this day with much fanfare.
Famous Bengali artist Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, the Guest of Honour, was invited to perform Tagore’s songs which were brilliantly interspersed with literary pieces from other national and international poets and authors such as Amandeep Sandhu, Buddhadeb Basu, Kavita Singh and Surjit Patar.
Sujoy commented that, “Many years ago I started the trend to perform in cafes. I brought Tagore and arts to these places as I realised I was developing a newer and younger audience here. On his (Tagore’s) death anniversary today, my program is journeying through literary pieces mostly in Bangla. What Blue Moose is doing is important; as cafes are places for community building and I hope that this community of Tagore lovers continues to grow”.
As Sujoy took the mike and moved to center stage, the audience was mesmerized with his baritone and wonderful style of poetry recitation, narration and singing.
Mou Ray, the Proprietor of the Blue Moose cafe, stated that, “We are a new cafe, we wanted to host a cultural event which is close to Bengalis’ hearts. They love Tagore’s songs and poems. We have a closed audience today as so many people were interested in this program that we didn’t have any more room to accommodate others”.
Mou’s hospitality is legendary and she some of her signature dishes like Fish n Chips, Moroccan Chicken, Grilled Fish and Pasta, followed by Peanut Butter Cake, Cheese Cake n Brownie with Ice cream.
