Established in 1974, the Institute of Internal Auditors India – Calcutta Chapter (IIAI Calcutta Chapter) holds the distinction of being the first chapter in India. As it enters its Golden Jubilee year in 2023-24, the chapter reflects on its illustrious journey, marked by a commitment to promoting the development of the internal auditing profession in Eastern India.
Headquartered in Kolkata, the chapter extends its influence through three audit clubs in Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Jamshedpur. Boasting over 400 active members, including both corporate entities and individuals, the chapter encompasses leading Big4 accounting and auditing firms.
The Golden Jubilee celebration, held on December 16, 2023, at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Kolkata, was a momentous occasion led by Chapter President Mr. Subhash Saraf, a seasoned CA with over four decades of practice. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Mr. Sidheshwar Bhalla, National President of the Institute of Internal Auditors India, and Chief Guest Mr. Subrata Bagchi, former partner of Deloitte India, who discussed the evolution and future significance of the Internal Audit function.
Key figures like Mr. Debashis Ghosh, National Secretary, and Mr. Abin Mukhopadhayay, Secretary of the Chapter, added their valuable insights. Attended by around 200 professionals, including corporate leaders from across India and influential figures from leading CA firms in Eastern India, the celebration honored past presidents for their leadership.
A memorable souvenir was released to commemorate the occasion, and the chapter has an exciting lineup of events planned for its Golden Jubilee year. With a strong track record of providing high-quality education, training, and advocacy for the internal audit profession, the IIAI Calcutta Chapter continues to serve as a valuable resource for internal auditors in Eastern India, fostering a network of colleagues and support services.
In recognition of its outstanding contributions, the chapter has received multiple awards from IIA India, including the prestigious “Chapter of the Year” accolade on numerous occasions.
