Inauguration and Keynote
The 5th National Conference of Corporate Company Secretaries, hosted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), began in Kolkata on July 19, 2024. The event, themed “Corporate CS: Transforming Governance for Viksit Bharat,” was inaugurated with significant enthusiasm. Shri Vivek Gupta, Managing Director & Chief Group Editor of SANMARG, served as the Chief Guest. His address emphasized the evolving role of Company Secretaries in modern governance. He remarked, “From advising Boards to streamlining compliances, Company Secretaries are pivotal to good governance in India Inc.”
Evolving Role of Company Secretaries
CS B Narasimhan, President of ICSI, highlighted the expanding responsibilities of Company Secretaries. He stressed the importance of their contributions to India’s development under the Viksit Bharat vision. Narasimhan noted that ICSI remains committed to nurturing a culture of good governance and expanding its global footprint.
Technical Sessions and Future Plans
The conference features a series of technical sessions over two days:
- SEBI LODR: Latest Amendments, Issues & Clarifications
- Framework and Trends for ESG Reporting
- Digitizing Governance: Building Efficacy
- Thought Leadership: Changing Board Dynamics
These sessions aim to address current challenges and trends in corporate governance.
ICSI also unveiled two upcoming events:
- ICSI Middle East Conference: September 4-6, 2024, Abu Dhabi, UAE
- 52nd National Convention of Company Secretaries: November 8-10, 2024, Mumbai
Closing Remarks
CS Asish Mohan, Secretary of ICSI, delivered the Vote of Thanks, concluding the conference with a note of appreciation for the participants and speakers.
