Maintenance of ROB Leads to Intermittent Traffic and Power Block at Bally

Kolkata, April 19, 2024 – The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans for the maintenance of Road Over Bridge (ROB) Number 15A at Bally, necessitating an intermittent traffic and power block for 150 minutes per day over 46 days, starting from April 22, 2024, to June 29, 2024.

Maintenance Work Overview

The maintenance work primarily focuses on repairing girders and the deck underside of ROB 15A, located on a crucial highway connecting Dakhineswar/Kolkata and Dankuni. NHAI, in coordination with railway authorities, has devised a plan to minimize disruption to regular train services during this period.

Scheduled Traffic Block

  • Night Time Operations: The traffic block will occur mainly during late-night hours to early morning to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
  • Minimal Impact on EMU Locals: Efforts have been made to ensure that the traffic block does not affect the movement of regular EMU local trains significantly.

Detailed Schedule

The 46-day intermittent traffic block will be implemented on different days and lines, including Howrah-Barddhaman Chord Line section, Main Line Section, and Howrah–Barddhaman Main Line Section. This phased approach aims to optimize maintenance while mitigating disruptions.

Train Diversions and Controls

Several mail/express and passenger trains will be diverted or controlled en route to accommodate the maintenance work. Notable changes include:

  • Train Diversions: Four trains, including the Dehradun-Howrah Kumbha Express and Muzaffarpur-Howrah Jansadharan Express, will be diverted via Bandel on specific dates.
  • Train Controls: Two long-distance trains, Mokama-Howrah Express and Gaya-Howrah Express, will be controlled for varying durations between Barddhaman and Uttarpara.

Contingency Measures

Railway authorities have devised contingency plans to manage any unforeseen circumstances, ensuring minimal disruption to passenger services.

Conclusion

The intermittent traffic and power block at Bally for maintenance of ROB 15A underscore the collaborative efforts between NHAI and railway authorities to ensure infrastructure upkeep without compromising commuter convenience. By strategically scheduling maintenance activities and implementing diversionary measures, the aim is to maintain the efficiency and safety of both road and rail networks.
