Introducing a New Era of Laughter: The Barujjye Family
Produced by Films and Frames, this Mega Series brings fresh humor to screens with weekly episodes. Set in a cozy Kolkata flat, the show follows the Barujjye (Banerjee) family as they navigate hilarious family and social scenarios.
The Cast of Characters
- Bidhan and Kalyani Banerjee: Married for 34 years, they are the heart of the family. Kalyani is a staunch admirer of Rabindranath Tagore and often tries to control the household. Bidhan’s thriftiness, however, constantly irritates her.
- Arun Banerjee: The couple’s eldest son, Arun, is a corporate worker and the most sensible one in the family. His Punjabi wife, Simran, clashes with Kalyani’s traditional ways, creating a classic saas-bahu dynamic.
- Gurkiran: The ten-year-old daughter of Arun and Simran, is an adored vlogger—though Kalyani disapproves of her “Punjabi” name.
- Barun (Barry): The youngest son and Kalyani’s favorite, Barry fancies himself a rapper but lacks a job, adding an element of comic chaos.
Each episode presents a quirky challenge that the family resolves, creating a consistent dose of humor and relatability.

The Production Experience
From laughter-filled script readings to an on-set atmosphere of camaraderie, the entire production felt like a family reunion. Rohit Mukherjee, who plays Bidhan, shares how his character’s timid moments with his strong-willed wife translated into genuinely funny episodes. Deepanjan ‘Jack’ Bhattacharya (Arun) enjoyed the comic clashes with his on-screen wife, Simran, while Shweta Tiwari recalls a memorable moment when her laughter accidentally interrupted a shoot!
Sumalya Bhattacharya, the director, reflects on how the Mega Series concept posed new challenges, and Sanjay Bhattacharya, the writer, ensured that each character felt realistic yet laugh-out-loud funny. The result is a show that feels fresh and relatable, connecting audiences to the evolving fabric of Bengali family life in a way that’s light-hearted and uplifting.
