A Unique Collaboration
Make Calcutta Relevant Again, in collaboration with Y-East and Hulladek Recycling, is hosting Onyo Pujo, an innovative take on Durga Puja. The initiative aims to blend tradition with sustainability, showcasing how modern practices can elevate cultural celebrations. Students are at the forefront of this project, creating a Pujo experience rooted in regeneration.
Launch of Monta Re
The theme song “Monta Re,” composed by DJ Teej, was launched by actress Trina Saha and film director Satrajit Sen. This moment was witnessed by notable figures like Meghdut Roychowdhury, Founder of Make Calcutta Relevant Again, and Pauline Laravoire, Co-Founder of Y-East.
Sustainable Pandal and Idol
Designed by students of Ecole Intuit Lab, the pandal emphasizes sustainability. Last year’s idol, made from fabric scraps, will be repurposed this year, promoting resource efficiency and creativity. This initiative showcases how tradition can align with eco-friendly practices.
Championing Circularity
Onyo Pujo is centered around circular thinking. Materials like plastic bottles and damaged fabric are repurposed for the event, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Even flower waste will be turned into organic dyes, proving that what is often discarded can still have value.
A Platform for Innovation
Onyo Pujo is more than just a celebration. It offers a platform for students to present their sustainable projects, with Hulladek Recycling playing a key role in waste management during the festival. The event emphasizes how Kolkata can embrace change while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
A Celebration with a Message
Onyo Pujo will be inaugurated on October 8th, following all Pujo rituals. It marks a new chapter in Kolkata’s cultural landscape, showing that tradition and sustainability can coexist seamlessly.
