On 18th December, 2024, South Bengal Frontier IG Shri Maninder P.S. Pawar, IPS welcomes the All-Women Ganga River Rafting Team of 20 courageous women trained under the Border Security Force (BSF) at Tagore Vila Mandir Ghat.
This historic journey comprising of 20 women border guards, along with two Border Security Force (BSF) officers and support staff, began their 53-day adventure from Gangotri on November 2 and will concluding their journey on 24th December, 2024.
They started this journey to promote women empowerment, clean ganga, better environmental health and women health and were sponsored by Border Security Force (BSF) and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
This whole expedition was full of challenges for the team members, being at the water for a prolonged time resulted in losing all their mobile phones, getting constantly hit by the waves. They faced all such extremities with their bravery and did not step back from continuing this process.
Upon completing 46 days of journey, the BSF held a ceremony of welcoming the all-women team for their showcasing their bravery without fail and then flagged off them for their remaining journey. The event was honoured by the chief guest c, IPS, IG BSF South Bengal Frontier along with officials of local administration and prominent dignitaries, school students, NCC cadets and Bharat Scouts & Guides.
Speaking about the journey so far, the South Bengal Frontier Chief Guest Shri Maninder P.S. Pawar, IPS said, “this river rafting expedition does not only promote ganga cleanliness but also sets an example for all the women across the country. It inspires people to be more aware about the environmental health and protection”.
During this event present all the officers, local administration, school students, took a pledge to never pollute any waterbody and be more cautious about the environmental health, and also treat every woman with respect.
The event ended with IG BSF South Bengal Frontier wishing the team luck and officially flagging off the team for their upcoming journey of a few more days.
