India loses another musical legend Ustad Zakir Hussain at the age of 73 on Sunday, December 15. He was admitted in the ICU in a hospital of San Francisco for over the past week due to serious health concerns. He was said to have been facing heart related problems. However, his health kept deteriorating and he was also reported to have blood pressure issues.
Tough an official statement from his family members is yet to be received. Many have posted on X paying their tributes to the musician including our Home Minister Amit Shah, Chairperson of RPG Enterprises. Leader of opposition party Rahul Gandhi along with minister Nitin Gadkari and many other officials had paid their condolences too on the Twitter.
Later his nephew Ameer Aulia had tweeted “My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive and we would ask the news media not to post mis-information. We ask for prayers and we ask for everyone’s well wishes”.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as well as Home Minister Amit Shah later took down their posts.
The talented musician received numerous prestigious awards throughout his career including Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002, Padma Vibhushan in 2023 along with four Grammy Awards and many more. He was recognized not only nationally but also globally. He also received the India’s highest national recognition award in music the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990. His son Ustad Alla Rakha Khan also a legendary table virtuoso followed his father’s footsteps and made recognition nationally as well as globally.
