A Landmark Achievement
June 14, 2024 – Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), a leading Indian rolling stock manufacturer, has started the production of trainsets for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s (BMRCL) Phase 2 Yellow Line project. This initiative is part of a significant contract with China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), marking a pivotal moment in Titagarh’s contribution to India’s urban transportation infrastructure.
Overcoming Challenges
The original contract between BMRCL and CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, signed in December 2019, faced several challenges, resulting in delays. To mitigate these delays in rolling stock supply, CRRC requested additional time and subsequently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Titagarh Rail Systems. This MoU enables Titagarh to manufacture the trainsets at its state-of-the-art facility.
Production Details
Under the agreement, Titagarh is tasked with producing 34 out of the 36 trainsets required for the Yellow Line. Only two trainsets, comprising 12 coaches, will be manufactured in China. To meet project specifications, Titagarh has established a dedicated stainless steel production line at its facility. Production commenced on May 18th, 2024, with the first trainset expected to be delivered in August 2024.
Significance of the Yellow Line
The 21-km Yellow Line, extending from RV Road to Bommasandra, is a vital metro corridor designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru. Once completed, this line will significantly improve urban mobility for the city’s residents. Titagarh’s involvement in this high-profile project underscores its commitment to supporting national infrastructure projects through reliable transportation solutions.
Reinforcing Leadership in Rail Transportation
Titagarh’s extensive manufacturing capabilities enable it to meet a broad range of transportation needs, solidifying its position as a leader in the rail transportation industry. The company’s ongoing investments in advanced production technologies and its unwavering commitment to quality and innovation continue to drive its success and substantial contributions to national infrastructure.
