Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) marked a significant milestone in India’s maritime capabilities with the launch of its second 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Bahubali, for the Indian Navy. The ceremony, held at the company’s facility in Titagarh, Barrackpore, showcased the commitment of TRSL towards bolstering the nation’s naval strength.
The launch of Bahubali is part of a larger order secured by TRSL in November 2021 from the Indian Navy, under the Ministry of Defence’s Make in India initiative. This initiative aims to promote indigenous manufacturing and strengthen the country’s defense capabilities. Additionally, the keel laying ceremony for the fourth 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Yuvan, marked another step forward in this endeavor.
The event was graced by Commodore Atul Maini, President SSB (Kolkata), along with other distinguished guests and representatives from TRSL. Mr. Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of TRSL, expressed pride in the company’s achievements, highlighting the swift progress in launching the second tug within just two months of the first one.
The 25T BP Tug is equipped with advanced features to enhance its performance in diverse maritime operations. Powered by robust engines generating 1200 BHP each, the tug provides formidable thrust for maneuvering large vessels. Its azimuth thrusters enable exceptional maneuverability, while the 25-ton Bollard Pull capacity ensures efficient handling of towing tasks.
Safety and operational efficiency are paramount, with features such as an external firefighting system and extended endurance of up to 96 hours. Comfortable accommodation facilities for the crew, along with advanced communication and navigation equipment, further enhance operational effectiveness.
TRSL’s involvement in the construction of naval vessels, including Diving Support Craft and 25 BP tugs, underscores its contribution to the Government of India’s transformative policies such as Make in India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Through such initiatives, TRSL continues to play a vital role in strengthening India’s defense infrastructure and promoting self-reliance in the maritime sector.
