The recently concluded 55th Garment Buyers & Sellers Meet organized by the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association (WBGMDA) at the Eco Park Fairgrounds, Kolkata, marked a significant milestone in the ready-made garment industry. Held over three days from 8th to 10th January 2024, this iconic event attracted participation from approximately 900 national and international brands, making it a crucial platform for business networking and transactions.
The exhibition, the oldest of its kind in the region, once again proved its success, registering a remarkable 2100+ visitors from across the country and abroad. The sheer magnitude of the event was reflected in the staggering Rs. 850 Crore business transactions achieved through wholesale deals during the course of the meet. The success of this event further solidifies its reputation as a catalyst for growth in the Readymade Garment Industry in Bengal.
Sri Hari Kishan Rathi, President of West Bengal Garment Manufacturers & Dealers Association, expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s success, stating, “This industry already has one of the biggest workforces, with over 50 lakh employees employed in direct or indirect capacity. The Rs. 850 Crore business transaction and the participation of 900 National and International brands in this Meet has proven itself time and again to boost the Readymade Garment Industry in Bengal.” He also commended the efforts of the government in supporting the textile industry and the ready-made garments, promoting clothing business and marketing.
The event was not only about business transactions but also highlighted the appreciation received from the visitors for the impeccable decor, ambience, and hospitality provided by the Association. The attention to detail in creating a conducive environment for networking and business discussions added to the overall success of the meet.

The WBGMDA, established in 1962, plays a pivotal role in representing and promoting the ready-made garment industry in East India. With a democratic structure governed by a core committee and co-opted members, the association provides specialized services for the development of the industry. Apart from organizing the Garment Buyers and Sellers Meet twice a year, the association conducts seminars, facilitates member understanding of government decisions and policies, organizes health-related initiatives, and actively participates in social causes.
