Produced by Bhushan Kumar under T-Series in association with Anurag Basu Productions, the film brings together a star-studded cast — including Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta, and Saswata Chatterjee — in a series of interconnected stories exploring the emotional intricacies of metropolitan life.
A Modern Ghazal for a New Era
‘Zamaana Lage’ reunites director Anurag Basu with music maestro Pritam, a duo known for chartbusters that define entire eras. This time, they delve into the evocative world of ghazals, reimagined for the contemporary listener. Sung by the ever-soulful Arijit Singh alongside Shashwat Singh, the song is steeped in longing, urban romance, and lyrical beauty.
The lyrics of ‘Zamaana Lage’ are rooted in the poetry of Qaisar Ul Jafri, particularly the haunting line, “Tumhaare sheher ka mausam bada suhana lage.” Enriched further by lyricist Sandeep Shrivastava, the song bridges classical Urdu poetic traditions with today’s musical sensibilities.
Composer Pritam on Reviving the Ghazal
“In ‘Zamaana Lage’, we’ve taken the soul of a traditional ghazal and dressed it in a modern musical language,” says Pritam. “With Qaisar Ul Jafri’s timeless words, we wanted to bring emotional poetry into the mainstream, not as nostalgia, but as something real and resonant. Ghazals can be pop — they can thrive beyond classical structures. That’s the essence of this track.”
