PASSENGER EVACUATION MOCK DRILL SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED IN COLLABORATION WITH NDRF TEAM AT ARAMBAGH, HOWRAH DIVISION

Kolkata, November 29, 2023 : In a proactive effort to enhance emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of railway commuters, Howrah Division conducted a comprehensive Passenger Evacuation Mock Drill in association with the 34 Rescuers of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on the night of November 28, 2023, at 23:55 hrs. at Arambagh Station.

The joint operation involved the participation of dedicated staff from various department, including Accident Relief Trains (ART), Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV), CDO, Safety, Mechanical, Signal, Personnel Branch, Commercial Branch Medical Department, Railway Protection Force, and Telecom (S&T), and other wings.

Upon receiving the alarm, teams consisting of NDRF, accident relief van, Government Railway Police (GRP), CDO, Railway Protection Force (RPF), medical, and other wings swiftly converged on the simulated incident site. The teams demonstrated exceptional coordination and efficiency in cutting window grills and the side body of the condemned coach using hydraulic cutters to rescue passengers.

The NDRF team showcased various evacuation techniques, including cradle lift and single-man human crutch, while also demonstrating methods to rescue unconscious passengers and those stranded on top of the coaches using chain knots and window rescue with stretcher methods.

Senior Divisional Safety Officer, along with representatives from the Fire, GRP, RPF, and safety departments, provided a comprehensive demonstration on using fire safety measures during emergencies. The drill aimed to not only tests the efficiency of the response teams but also to familiarize them with the latest techniques and equipment for handling emergency situations.
