Celebrating 58 years of dedicated service to the garment sector in West Bengal, the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association recently organized its 55th Garment Fair and B2B Expo at Eco Park Fairgrounds, Kolkata, spanning three days from January 8th to 10th, 2024. The event, a significant endeavor for the State’s economy, attracted 900 National and International brands, anticipating business transactions in the range of Rs. 850-900 Crore at wholesale deals.
The event garnered attention from the State Government and leading business houses, with the inauguration led by Sri. Sujit Bose, Minister of State for Fire, Govt. of WB. Eminent personalities like Sri. Nirmal Jain, Founder of Evergreen Hosiery Industry, Sri. Hari Kishan Rathi, President of WBGMDA, and other dignitaries were also present.
The association, dedicated to fostering a modern and competitive garment industry, particularly MSMEs, has been organizing garment fairs and B2B Exhibitions to position the country as a robust hub in the global textile supply chain. The non-retail event, WBGMDA – Buyer Sellers Meet, has become a pivotal platform for esteemed companies in the eastern part of the country, contributing significantly to job creation and supporting GDP growth.
Sri. Hari Kishan Rathi, President of WBGMDA, expressed gratitude for the immense support received over the years, acknowledging the industry’s predecessors for paving the way and creating opportunities for the new generation.
Sri. Devendra Baid, Hony. Secretary of WBGMDA, highlighted the continuous success of the buyers and sellers meetings organized by the association over five decades. Despite economic uncertainties, the event has grown, offering steadfast support to the readymade garment industry in the region. The meet has gained approval from the Department of MSME, making it a pioneering initiative in the sector.
